Learning how to relax

Learning how to relax

Learning how to relax is something that everyone can benefit from. Relaxation reduces tension, stress, anxiety and promotes the release of endorphins that promote health and healing.
Stress is an unwanted byproduct of a busy and demanding modern day lifestyle. Unfortunately all that stress releases hormones like cortisol that keep us on high alert. These hormones effect our health, our eating habits, emotional states and our sleeping patterns.
Many people are using Hypnotherapy for stress relief and controlling anxiety to improve their lives and health. A hypnotherapist can teach anyone how to self hypnotise and when practiced it becomes a skill that they will have for life.
The advantage that hypnosis has over other relaxation techniques is that it is faster to induce and as the state is usually deeper, less time needs to be spent there for the same benefits. Some of the deeper states of hypnosis can improve healing between 6 and 10 times faster. Natural pain control techniques can also be taught using hypnosis as analgesia is a byproduct of the hypnotic state. At the deepest hypnotic state refereed to as ‘the Esdale state’ full body anaesthesia can be replicated. Positive suggestions can also be introduced to improve self confidence.

You really are not alone!

You really are not alone!

Alex-2

You are not alone! Believe it or not statistically1 in 4 people will suffer from a mental problem at some point in their lives. I believe it’s much higher because many sufferers are living life by coping with their anxieties and trying to push their pain away. Many use alcohol, exercise and work to distract themselves. The problem is when they get back home the pain is there, waiting for them.

Most are holding on to a belief that it’s shameful or embarrassing to admit that they are struggling to cope with life and never seek help. Many have tried to solve their problems with anti depressants or talking with counsellors and believe that there is no hope of leading a normal life.

Many of you know how much I hate the label “metal illness” that is given to problems like anxiety and depression. Only about 7% of people labelled with the mental illness tag are actually mentally ill. The other 93% have a “thinking problem” that can be resolved much quicker than they think.

The human mind works very much like a computer. It analyses the world using Imputed past experiences or memories to make decisions. If imputed information doesn’t match what is in there already it will be rejected.

Here is an example of how information is accepted or rejected through programming. Just read this next statement and see what happens:

This is a triangle! ◼

The mind compares the information that it has retained in it’s hard drive and rejects the statement because it doesn’t match.

Now use this idea to analyse these statements and see how your personal computer accepts or rejects them:

You are a good person!

You are beautiful inside and outside!

You are loved and lovable!

You are just as good as everyone else!

You don’t need to feel anxious any more!

If your computer rejected any one of these statements then you have a corruption or a virus that has been programmed in at some point of your life. This corruption is affecting your decisions and how you “perceive” yourself.

Notice I use the word perceive. I use that word because your perception of yourself is not true!
Talking and taking medications can not reach or affect your inner computer. There is only one way to access your hard drive, reprogram, de-frag and install new realistic programs. It is by using hypnotherapy. In deep trance states your beliefs and perceptions about yourself can be altered without interference.

Remember “you are not alone”

You are not alone!

Sigmund Freud was right about anxiety…

Sigmund Freud was right about anxiety…

In this photo released by the Sigmund Freud Museum in Vienna former Austrian psychoanalyst Sigmund Freud is pictured in his working room in 1938. Austria and the world will be celebrating Sigmund Freud's 150th birthday on Saturday May 6, 2006. (AP Photo/Sigmund Freud Museum)

When the subconscious mind detects a threat it prepares the body to take action which is to run away or fight. The mind becomes ‘fully focused’ and adrenaline is released, speeding up the heart rate. Blood courses through the body, oxygenating the muscles in the legs and arms preparing us for action. Blood leaves the stomach making us a little nauseous and the bowels and bladder prepare to empty. The slow conscious, rational mind shuts down and the ‘faster’ life preserving subconscious mind takes control. We are now ready for action!

We are not really under attack it is only a perceived threat. We are then left with all this adrenaline and pent up energy trapped in our bodies and the ‘slow’ uncomfortable release of energy and hormones begins leaving us tired, tense and aching.

If this cycle is repeated and we regularily feel under threat the stress hormone ‘cortisol’ is fed into our system so that we are prepared to take action at any moment. Unfortunately if the anxiety is prolonged cortisol can be detrimental to our wellbeing.

The established way of dealing with anxiety is with anti-depressants and talking therapies which address physiology and conscious, rational thought. They do not address the actual problem and that is why they are largely ineffective.

Sigmund Freud said “there is no effect without cause and the cause is usually hidden from the conscious mind”. He also said” amnesia lies at the base of all neurotic symptoms. Our goal is to reveal the forgotten memories through yet to be learned methods”

The “yet to be learned methods” have been largely ignored for years by health professionals. The key to gaining access to these “forgotten memories” is through hypnosis. In hypnosis you can access these memories and re-process them so they don’t bother you any more.

Why diets don’t work…

image

It’s January again! So it’s out with the old and in with the new. Many of you out there will once again be looking through the hundreds of fad diets trying to find one that promises the most with the least effort! Sadly, even with all the good intensions in the World statistically over 80% of us will fail in our attempts to lose weight.

I’m not qualified to lecture on diets but I think you will all agree that if we fill our bodies with crappy processed foods containing high levels of sugar, salt and fat our waist lines and butts will expand. Combine that with a sedentary life style and no exercise and the health implications are too frightening to contemplate.

So why is it that armed with this information we still eat badly and risk sending ourselves to an early grave? Simply because our conscious, rational, mind doesn’t run the show! There is a much more powerful part of the mind called the subconscious that controls pretty much everything we do. It lives in the moment, likes instant Gratification, it doesn’t like difficult and has no conscience. Within it are all of our memories, all our beliefs about ourselves and our remembered patterns of behavior (or habits).

The subconscious mind is emotive and has a clear Internal representation of who we are, built up from years of experiences stretching back from when we were born. Everything we do has to match up to this internal representation or any suggestions of change will be swiftly rejected.

The bad news is that will power and common sense alone have very little effect on the subconscious mind which explains why diets are so hard to maintain. The good news is that through the use of hypnosis that internal image of ourselves can be changed and the subconscious mind can be altered so it accepts positive suggestion.

It’s mental issues not mental illness!

It’s mental issues not mental illness!

IMG_0313Anyone who has studied semantics or language patterns realises the importance of the words that we use to describe the world around us. For example illness is defined as ” a disease or sickness of the body or mind”. Common mental issues like Anxiety, stress, depression, OCD, PTSD and phobias are classed as mental illnesses but they are not diseases or sickness. While they are thought of as illnesses there will be stigmas attached to them and sufferers will be less likely to seek help.
Over 90% of people classed as mentally ill actually have thinking issues or problems. Either they are in a situation that they are not comfortable with or, they have been traumatised or they have a habitualised negative way of thinking. They do not need chemical intervention to make them well, they just need to be taught how to think clearly so that they can move on and start enjoying life again.

The mind beneath.

image

There is a mind beneath our conscious that is responsible for maintaining anxiety, fears, phobias, OCD, PTSD, panic attacks, eating disorders and harmful habits such as smoking. This subconscious mind sometimes makes us do harmful things to ourselves and overrides logic thought. This subconscious mind may seem irrational at times but it’s purpose is to protect us and fore fill our basic needs. The subconscious mind has kept us alive for thousands of years but unfortunately hasn’t adapted to the pressures and complexities of modern life. This mind is capable of processing millions of bits of information a second and creating wonderful things but can sometimes be our Achilles heel.

Our natural resistance to change

IMG_0313

A piece on the news caught my attention this morning. Apparently the NHS are funding a 400 person survey to discover why people do not follow through with the advice of their GP’s, take their medication and make appropriate life style changes.

No doubt this survey will cost the tax payer tens of thousands of pounds and probably conclude that GP’s will need to clearer explain the health benefits of following their advice and the terrible out comes if they don’t to their patients. This is the logical and correct advice but unfortunately it will be rejected by most patients. So why is it that even when faced by death most of us ignore the advice of people who know best?

We are controlled by a subconscious mind that is programmed to move us away from discomfort. When I say discomfort I mean it hates moving away from what is familiar and what requires effort. The subconscious mind lives for instant gratification which is particularly evident in people who smoke and people who over eat. While they are smoking or eating they are in ecstasy and it is only afterwards that the realizations of what they have done sets in and makes them feel bad. It is a fact that 60% of smokers diagnosed with lung cancer continue to smoke.

It is essential the subconscious mind is convinced that the effort is worthwhile and that change is more beneficial than continuing what is familiar. For some this can be achieved by the awareness of new information or through re-education.

If there is still no acceptance of the benefits of change and a ressistance to change then alternatives need to be looked at. The most appropriate is through hypnosis where a connection is made with the subconscious mind to break down any resistance to change.

Hypnosis has been around for thousands of years. Hypnotherapy is a natural and safe way to deal with problems like anxiety, fears, phobias, trauma, negative habits and thinking issues. There are no nasty side effects, it is direct and fast.
